Phase 6 Plan 04: Cross-Generator Consistency Tests Summary

Consistency validation for timestamp_format and bytes_encoding across all 4 generators with table-driven cross-generator agreement tests

Performance#

  • Duration: ~4 min
  • Started: 2026-02-06T16:32:49Z
  • Completed: 2026-02-06T16:36:46Z
  • Tasks: 3 (2 implementation + 1 verification)
  • Files created: 2

Accomplishments#

  • 8 new consistency test functions verifying cross-generator agreement for timestamp_format and bytes_encoding
  • Byte-level identical code confirmed between go-http and go-client for both timestamp_format and bytes_encoding
  • TypeScript types verified: number for unix timestamps, string for everything else (RFC3339, date, all bytes variants)
  • OpenAPI schemas verified: integer/unix-timestamp for unix, string/date-time for RFC3339, string/date for date, string/byte for base64, string/hex for hex, string/base64url for base64url
  • Table-driven cross-generator agreement tests confirm all 5 timestamp formats and 6 bytes encodings match across 4 generators
  • Full test suite passes with 0 regressions across all phases (1-6)
  • All 52 exhaustive golden file tests pass

Task Commits#

Each task was committed atomically:

  1. Task 1: Create timestamp_format cross-generator consistency tests - 6c97ebb (test)
  2. Task 2: Create bytes_encoding cross-generator consistency tests - 9c66250 (test)
  3. Task 3: Run full test suite and verify all golden files - (verification only, no commit)

Files Created#

  • internal/httpgen/timestamp_format_consistency_test.go - 4 test functions:

    • TestGoGeneratorsProduceIdenticalTimestampFormat (byte-level go-http vs go-client)
    • TestTimestampFormatTypeScriptTypes (number for unix, string for RFC3339/date)
    • TestTimestampFormatOpenAPISchemas (type+format per variant)
    • TestTimestampFormatCrossGeneratorAgreement (table-driven 4-generator verification)
  • internal/httpgen/bytes_encoding_consistency_test.go - 4 test functions:

    • TestGoGeneratorsProduceIdenticalBytesEncoding (byte-level go-http vs go-client)
    • TestBytesEncodingTypeScriptTypes (all variants produce string)
    • TestBytesEncodingOpenAPISchemas (format+pattern per variant)
    • TestBytesEncodingCrossGeneratorAgreement (table-driven 4-generator verification)

Decisions Made#

No new architectural decisions. Tests follow established patterns from Phase 4 (encoding_consistency_test.go) and Phase 5 (nullable_consistency_test.go, empty_behavior_consistency_test.go).

Deviations from Plan#

None -- plan executed exactly as written.

Issues Encountered#

None.

User Setup Required#

None -- no external service configuration required.

Next Phase Readiness#

  • Phase 6 (JSON Data Encoding) is now COMPLETE:
    • Plan 06-01: Annotations (timestamp_format, bytes_encoding proto definitions + shared parsing)
    • Plan 06-02: Timestamp format across all 4 generators with golden tests
    • Plan 06-03: Bytes encoding across all 4 generators with golden tests
    • Plan 06-04: Cross-generator consistency tests confirming agreement
  • All Phase 6 success criteria met:
    1. timestamp_format annotation works across all generators
    2. bytes_encoding annotation works across all generators
    3. Identical Go server/client encoding code
    4. TypeScript types match Go serialization
    5. OpenAPI schemas accurately document encoding formats
    6. Cross-generator consistency verified (this plan)
  • Ready for Phase 7 (JSON Complex Types)
