Decisions Made#

D-04-02-01: Use protojson for base serialization, then modify map for NUMBER fields

  • Rationale: Preserves correct handling of all other field types (nested messages, enums, timestamps)
  • Trade-off: Slight performance overhead from double marshal, but correctness > speed for code generation

D-04-02-02: Print precision warning to stderr during generation

  • Rationale: Developer sees warning during build, can make informed decision
  • Alternative considered: Runtime warning - rejected as too noisy and not actionable at runtime

D-04-02-03: Identical encoding.go implementation in httpgen and clientgen

  • Rationale: Guarantees server and client produce byte-identical JSON for same message
  • Pattern: Mirror the implementation exactly including function names and logic

Deviations from Plan#

Auto-fixed Issues#

1. [Rule 3 - Blocking] External process interference

  • Found during: All tasks
  • Issue: An external process (IDE/linter) kept adding enum encoding code not part of this plan
  • Fix: Used git checkout <hash> -- to restore files to committed state multiple times
  • Files modified: internal/httpgen/generator.go, internal/clientgen/generator.go
  • Verification: Build and tests pass without enum encoding references
  • Committed in: Each task commit was clean after restoration

Total deviations: 1 auto-fixed (1 blocking) Impact on plan: Interference required repeated restoration, no scope change.

Issues Encountered#

  • External process modifying files: An IDE or linter process kept adding enum encoding support (from a future plan) to generator.go files. Resolved by repeatedly using git checkout to restore files to their committed state before each commit.
